Three Sisters Try to Beat the Game S3E01

Forward:

This run is a completely vanilla start on Earthlike from the drop pod with no extra anything. We’ve turned off progression to avoid the tutorial-like structure and will be finding a permanent base almost immediately. The Vanilla ore generation is very generous and typically has all the ore types within 2km of any spot so finding a good spot isn’t as necessary. Due to the nature of this run, we’ll be building as much underground as possible, deep underground.

The objective: Manufacture 10,000 of every component in the game not including weapons, bottles or anything that doesn’t stack and deliver them to the vanilla coordinates generated on on spawn, wherever that is and as always, with the caveat that we’ll be under nearly constant attack by drones, fighters and large ships once they find us. Historically, this is usually where we fail. It’s been the norm to get to a point in production and get overwhelmed trying to defend ourselves.

In previous attempts at this, Bear has been either too exposed, tried to build defenses above ground, been too shallow, or had a clear shot straight into his base. One time he had his only assembler placed within line of sight of the front door, which was heavily fortified, but when you’re taking heavy fire from said entrance, eventually even heavy armor will succumb and then his lifeline was taken out. Another time he was relying on solar and wind for power and once these were taken out, he was left limping to get a hydrogen engine setup, was low on ice, and eventually got infiltrator by a drone that basically blocked his access to outside with a live turret that also knocked out his power. No power means no respawn.

Strategy:

  1. Redundant spawn
  2. Redundant power
  3. Deep base, impervious to attack from the outside
  4. Underground tunnels to mines.
  5. Secluded ice mine.

Captain Gwen: Well, I agreed to this, but we’re doing this together. This wasn’t the best landing, but it doesn’t matter we’re going to put it on it’s side anyway. I have a plan.

Not the best landing.
Could be worse, nothing was damaged.

Captain Gwen: “I don’t have any small tubes?” said in a disappointed tone.

1st Officer Ashley: You don’t have anything.

Engineer Misha: Harsh! Anyway, we have erected a perimeter to prevent wolves from attacking. Also, I can see water from here, so it’s not so bad of a spot.

Captain Gwen: “We only get one hydrogen tank?”

1st Officer Ashley: Be grateful.

Captain Gwen: I should have been grateful, we lost our only oxygen bottle due to a grinding accident.

Thankfully we’ve been keeping the wolves at bay with some metal scaffolding because after the third attack we ran out of ammo.

After our intermediate craft was mostly done, we scavenged the blueprint projector for parts we needed to make two more thrusters. Now we might actually have a chance to fly out of the hole we made to right it.

Built entirely from the landing pod.

Engineer Misha: It was expertly done and we owe it all to you Captain!

Captain Gwen: Thank you Misha.
